I thought you might like to see this little shocker!

caroleparkes's avatarAuthor -Carole Parkes

Julie Simpson is finding out that Christmas invitations are even more complicated when you’re leading a secret double-life. She has two sets of parents; the ones who lovingly raised her and her recently discovered birth parents who informed her she was stolen from them when she was a baby.

To protect her mum and dad from possible prosecution and to learn the truth, she builds a secret relationship with her natural parents telling them the ‘parents’ she grew up with are both deceased. This one little lie leads to many more as Julie, with the help of her husband, John, becomes ensnared with fibs and half-truths.

Despite the intricacies of the situation where neither set of parents know about the other, Julie is coping well until she realises that both sets of parents are expecting her company on Christmas day. How can she resolve this dilemma and still keep her…

Just Our Imagination

I was reading through other WordPress sites, as you do, and came across this interesting article about riding a bike. It took me back to being a child when when we played on the streets for hours with them. My brother and I used to pretend they were horses and we had an army of… Continue reading Just Our Imagination

A Case For Adjectives?

I don’t know why I haven’t been following Carole’s blog before. A sheer oversight!
I loved this story and didn’t expect the ending at all. How sad really. I wanted to see the magic of this story with my followers. Please follow the link and Carole’s blog.

In writing circles experts frown upon using too many adjectives. This is from an English lesson I did many years ago. Oddly enough, I gained a tick for each adjective used. My question is how would this story be without them?

The Stranger

The spectacle of the filthy, bedraggled man sitting in the restaurant drew my attention. His matted, dirty hair hung in knots below his hunched shoulders and some of it fell forward into his soup. Pulling it out of the hot liquid he wiped the sticky, wet hair on his coat which was already covered in mouldy food spillage and vomit. He slurped noisily, spilling more soup from his spoon and mouth than he was managing to consume.

I looked away from him to my daughter who was standing next to me. She was also hypnotised by this revolting, stomach retching sight. Then my eyes fell upon his…

Soul Mates

This is an interesting observational piece about soul mates. So much is written about finding your soul mate and I must say I agree with this blogger. I've been married for over forty years and we are not soul mates, we are complete opposites, but, somehow it works. Soul Mates  Reblogged from 'Stories I've Never… Continue reading Soul Mates

Book Excerpt: The Morning My Husband Passed

Sad days.

abbiejohnsontaylor's avatarMy Corner

Six years ago today, my husband was found dead in his room at the nursing home where he’d spent the past month. I’d been caring for him at home for six years after two strokes paralyzed his left side. He’d started going downhill, finally getting to the point where I could no longer lift him.

I’d hoped to get him into Greenhouse,, a facility where residents live in cottages holding no more than twelve occupants and each have their own room and bath,. However, there was a six-month waiting list for people on Medicaid, so he and I decided that he should move to a regular nursing home for the time being. He must have decided he couldn’t wait for greener pastures.

The following poem, from My Ideal Partner: How I Met, Married, and Cared for the Man I Loved Despite Debilitating Odds, talks about how I learned…

Time for You

Sometimes you read something that captures something special. I saw this on the Miraculous Smile website - which you may want to follow - and it, well it made me smile. Talking Dirty

It’s so nice when someone is inspired by what you have written.
So I am reblogging Abbie’s take on this subject.

Thanks to the Magic of Stories for inspiring this post. Karen J. Mossman talks, in a way, about creating a balance between being realistic and providing an escape for our readers.

Can you think of any scenes where people go to the bathroom? I’m going to be vain and tell you that in my memoir, My Ideal Partner: How I Met, Married, and Cared for the Man I Loved Despite Debilitating Odds, I talk about going to the bathroom a lot. In one scene, I’m making oatmeal, and my husband Bill, totally blind and partially paralyzed by two strokes, is sitting at the kitchen table in his wheelchair. Suddenly, he says, “Oooh, I gotta pee. Oh, it’s too late. I wet my pants.” This gives my readers an idea of what I went through as a caregiver.

What about farting? In Larry McMurtry’s The Last Picture Show, there’s…
