Book Clubs and Me

Are you part of a book club?

During the years, I’ve belonged to two different book clubs. I love the idea simply because I enjoy reading, but neither worked for me.

It is supposed to widened your horizons as a reader and introduce you to books you would never normally look at.

The thing it highlighted was I don’t want my horizons widened. I had For me, reading is a pleasure, a passion, even. It’s my go to place for relaxing and when that’s taken away it becomes a chore.

I recently heard about The Silent Reading Book Group. With this one you bring your own book. Everyone reads for a while, then stops for a chat and a drink, before going back to reading. It’s more of a community thing, and I’d enjoy that.

However, there is one other book club I’m in and that is the Norns Book Club. With this one, we all read our own books and we don’t even meet. Instead, we share our reviews at a central point. I love seeing all the covers posted together and reading what people thought about the they had read. Often I’m enticed to read one because it sound so good.

Take a look, and if you see one and read it, let me know.

  1. Book Clubs don’t work for me either as I read too slow. So I never have the book finished on time. Also my reading time is limited so I don’t want to have too commit to a book I may not like or not a genre I enjoy. So I understand.
