What a superb read this was. I’ve followed the author on Instagram for years but had never read any of her books until I saw her promoting this series. Living by the sea, the lifeboat is part of everyday life around here, and this is the first time I’ve read a novel centred on these life saving volunteers.
Sea State could easily stand alone as a romance, but the addition of a thrilling suspense plot makes it even more compelling.
Jesse’s story begins as she tries to rebuild her life after a traumatic incident, and it’s impossible not to hope things will work out for her. Of course, life is never that straightforward. As the various storylines unfold and intertwine, the tension steadily builds, creating a gripping thriller that was difficult to put down.
I particularly like the camaraderie between the crew and the ‘shouts’ they go on. Many of the background characters have their own small storylines which brings the community to life making you believe it’s a real place.
If you’re looking for a new series to start, and the rest are as good as this one, then I highly recommend giving Sea State a try.
