BOOK BLURB
Jim Turner writes crime but doesn’t live it. He respects his grandfather’s tales of heroes but doesn’t believe them. When his failing grandfather sends him to a remote peninsula to write the end of his own heroic love story, Jim includes a war criminal interview to maintain his edge.
Chastity is an anomaly, a misfit in pre-WWII culture as well as in Jim’s life. Her spritely charm and endearing features turn Jim’s world upside down, especially when she reveals his grandfather’s peninsula as the site of her upcoming wedding.
Do good journalists flee when their interviewee is murdered? Do heroes write fiancés out of another’s story and themselves in? “The End” become the hardest words for Jim to write.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT
Author’s Note: Boy meets Girl. When love calls for great sacrifice.
“I’m so sorry about yesterday, Jim.”
Everything I was about to say vanished. She was sorry about yesterday? She hadn’t meant to dismiss me so handily in front of her parents? Her allegiance wasn’t solely to the absent Dwayne? Maybe she did love me…
I gave myself a mental slap. “Speaking of yesterday, I saw the peninsula. You were busy.” I sounded stiff, like a male Margie. Slightly gruff, like a thin Clyde.
Chastity looked pained and glanced to the side. Was that a tear I spotted?
I backpedaled. A hero loved, no matter what. If I died doing it, I would love Chastity the way she needed me to. I fumbled for the most appropriate topic I could think of. “Do you have a flower girl or ringbearer? An usher?” I couldn’t believe I even knew those terms, but wherever my memory dredged them up from, I was glad they were there, because she needed help with her worries.
“I suppose a flower girl would be nice…” She looked puzzled, tired, but her tear dried. “I won’t need an usher, with so few coming.” She gave me an almost desperate look. “You will be there, right?”
I should be there for her, but I would rather be there with her. Even if it made me an easy target for Reed’s killer.
“You could stand with me,” Chastity muttered.
“What? You mean like a Maid of Honor?”
“My very best friend.”
“Don’t you have a bridesmaid?” I asked.
“No.”
“I…won’t wear a dress.” I felt like an idiot. But if there was a chance I would die, I wanted to go looking like a man. A heroic man. Or a groom standing in Dwayne’s spot when she repeated her vows. Not behind her clutching a spray of flowers.
