Reblogged – Peeves

This is a great post and it made me chuckle because I’ve noticed this as well . Listen to people talk around you, or being interviewed on the television. The amount of ‘likes’ that find their way into a sentence. It used to er, or erm. I’d listen to people talking on the radio and the amount of erms, in their conversation is noticeable when you look out for it.

In fact I still remember my teacher at school who would say, ‘who’s Anna?’ We looked with confusion at him until he said, ‘all the way through your speech you kept saying and-er. It stuck with me all these years and I still pick up on it. His advice was to think about what you are going to say before you speak out loud.

I have to say, like, that I really have a few pet peeves, like. Why is it that people now cannot talk more than a few words without the word ‘like’ …

  1. Wow. I’ve noticed this in my own life too. A lot of it stems from nerves, shyness, and insecurity. I sometimes blurt out words or phrases that make no sense in the middle of sentences.
