I’d heard about this book before picking it up. Having already read one of Clare Bentley’s novels, I knew I’d get to it eventually, and I’m so glad I did!
You know when you think you understand what a book is about, only to be pleasantly surprised? This was exactly like that. I really enjoyed it.
Poor Poppy didn’t—and in her situation, neither would I. In fact, I doubt I’d be anywhere near as brave as she was. Breaking down on a secluded road at night is every woman’s nightmare. It’s the kind of thing nightmares are made of, and for Poppy, it certainly becomes one.
But it’s not just about her. The story also explores the anguish of those left behind – namely, her parents, brother, and boyfriend. What I found particularly intriguing were the actions of certain characters; as the secrets unfold, I found myself more and more drawn in.
Although the book has a satisfying ending, when characters stay with you like these did, you can’t help but wonder what happens next. Luckily, I know the author has just finished the second book in the series, so I’m hoping it’s released this year – especially while Survive the Night is still fresh in my mind.

When Poppy Blair breaks down on a dark stretch of road as she’s travelling home from work, she doesn’t expect it to be the worst night of her life.
Thinking she’s been saved a long walk home by a passer-by, Poppy gladly takes the ride offered by the woman behind the wheel.
But when Poppy’s attacked from someone concealed in the backseat, she’s thrown into a fight for her life.
What follows makes Poppy question everything, as secrets are revealed about her family. Still, she battles to be able to get home to them, alive.
Will Poppy be able to survive the night?
