100 Word Story #25 Carla by Tony McManus

The #100wordstory is just that, exactly one hundred words long.

If you have a story that fits this criteria. Email me, I would love to feature you.

Mark Allen got a posting to the US Embassy in Hanoi. He married Carla and took her with him to honeymoon in Vietnam. It was there that Helen was born. Life was good.

But Carla’s increasing alcoholism became a serious problem. She had fought it hard, but it was a losing battle. And on a visit home, out drinking with friends, she’d disappeared.

She was found by a police dog, hidden under a blanket of snow. Inebriated, she’d stumbled into a snow-bank and died of hyperthermia, leaving Mark in Hanoi with four-year-old Helen, and a heart forever broken.

More of Tony’s stories can be found on his website.
