The idea for It Had to Be You, came from a story the news show 60 Minutes did on immigrants and ways they make it over to American soil. It inspired me to write about a woman who stows away on a cargo barge from her native South Korea to California.

Violinist Areum Choi has always been under the impression that she doesn’t have any family. Imagine her surprise when Jace Crawford shows up, claiming she’s an heiress to a fortune.

At the urging of her new-found grandfather, and with the help of a reluctant Jace, she steps into a world one only reads about in the society pages. She never imagined she’d also land in Jace’s bed.

Can she find a real future with this hardened playboy, or is she just setting herself up for a future of heartbreak?

Excerpt

Areum’s gaze travelled the length of his muscular body. He wore a pair of low-slung navy-blue cotton striped pyjama bottoms and nothing else. Dark hair tunnelled from breastbone to navel. He was so close she could smell a combination of soap and warm skin. While the palms of her hands pressed his chest, she could feel its muscled hardness through every pore. Stepping away quickly, she swallowed the lump in her throat. “No, I just couldn’t sleep, that’s all. So, I thought perhaps a cup of hot tea might help. What’s your excuse?”

“I heard a noise. That’s what woke me.”

It must have been when she stumbled while entering the hall. “As you can see, I’m fine. No need for you to be concerned.”

Jace regarded her words. “That’s funny; you don’t look like it.”

“Trust me, I am,” she assured him in a shaky voice, re-turning to her task.

Stepping closer, Jace place his hands on Areum’s shoulders, turning her face him. And like a man driven to the brink, captured her mouth with his. Hers parting, she gave herself up to it; as his tongue slid inside, his hands skimming the length of her body. Heat throbbed through her, swirled, and shuddered.
