The Purchased Bridge by Ruth Nordin

I suddenly found that I was struggling to read. Every book I started failed to hold my interest, and I became frustrated with myself. Then I remembered Ruth Ann Nordin. For me, she is the queen of historical romance.

She has a huge collection of books to her name, several of which I’d already enjoyed. Many are available for free, including The Purchased Bride, so I chose that one.

The moment I began reading about Ada, travelling by train to Nebraska after being sold by her brother, I knew I’d picked the right book. He had arranged for her to marry a man she had never met. No wonder she spent most of the journey in tears.

When she meets Pete Kelly, it soon becomes clear that he is not your average man. That immediately caught my attention, and I settled in for a story I knew I was going to enjoy.

It was such an easy, charming read. Pete drew me into his world, just as he did Ada. Together, they had a lot to overcome, and although I felt sure they would manage it, the journey to the conclusion was both bumpy and absorbing.

Within three days, I’d finished the book. Now I can’t wait to read the second in the series, The Bride’s Choice, which tells Maybell’s story. We meet her in this book when she and her father become friends with Ada and Pete.

If you like historical romance, give this one a read. You won’t regret it.

Ada Wilcox never thought her brother would answer a mail-order bride ad on her behalf. Worse, he’s sold her–sight unseen–to a complete stranger. As she travels to Nebraska, she doesn’t know whether to be angry with her brother or scared about the uncertain future looming before her.

Pete Kelly never thought he’d marry. Then one day his brother brings him a woman to marry, and the loneliness that plagued him for years in his quiet world is finally at an end. But the gift he was given might be quickly taken away if he doesn’t act in time to keep it.
