Although this isn’t a series, I had read the previous book, Room Four, a Cold War thriller featuring a young Mike Johnson. Weekend on Niagara is set approximately twenty years later. There is no connection between the two, although Mike’s youthful exploits are mentioned.
Mike is now a solicitor and he books a holiday to Niagara Falls with his wife, Sarah. They arrange to stay with her cousin, and the two couples have a wonderful time together.
But there is always a catch. Mike is asked to run an errand for one of his clients. However, the ‘errand’ turns out to involve far more than he expected and takes them on a journey they never intended to make.
I really enjoyed this novella. It was a quick, fun read that kept me entertained for a couple of days. If you read the image above, I’m fairly certain the tour of the countryside will be my lasting memory of the story! Neatly rounded off with a satisfying ending, this is well worth reading.
