My Review of The Breakdown by B. A. Paris

I renewed my audible membership recently because they offered me a good deal. I wanted to read a particular book that wasn’t in kindle unlimited. It enabled me to download it for 99p, but then I didn’t like it, lol.

Already in my library was The Breakdown. I’d read one of B. A. Paris’s books before, and liked it. Although I also recently discovered I wasn’t a fan of psychological thrillers any more. But I enjoyed this one.

Cass is married to Matthew and has a best friend called Rachel. Cass witnesses something at the beginning of the story and from then on things keep going wrong. The silent phone calls make her feel unsafe in her own home. Matthew is sympathetic, but doesn’t believe they are menacing, thank goodness she has Rachel to confine in.

Overall, this is an extremely clever story. It weaves a web of lies and mistrust. Because Cass tells the story, you feed off her fear, and there is a lot of that. Her mother suffered from dementia and Cass thinks this is what she has too. The best thing was that everything is explained and wound up at the end. I came away very satisfied. Therefore, I recommend this book.
