Karen’s Review
A winner of the Electric Electra Books Novella Competition 2020, I had this on pre-order and hadn’t realised it was a Christmas story.
It’s a very deep, thought-provoking tale about 16-year-old Tristan and his family, and all set over the Christmas period. It takes you on an unusual journey with a comet blazing across the skies sending whispers to the family across the entire story.
It’s an emotional journey for the young lad as he comes to terms with family problems all resulting from the death of his father many years ago.
Supernatural elements add flavour and interest, and all the time it’s heartbreaking and heartwarming. This is a coming-of-age story that presents you with a different take on a festive story.
Book Description
It’s Christmas, and strange occurrences are plaguing the small town of Torrential Hill: a supernatural comet, undead insects, exploding streetlights, and a presence luring people into the woods. But when the mother of Tristen—a wistful, fatherless sixteen-year-old boy—hears voices from the kitchen sink, all he can think of is running away.
Norns Triad Publications presents a Pen to Publication and takes look at Below Torrential Hill. Go behind the scenes with Jonathan Koven, from story concept to the finished article.
