Mother’s Ruin by Thérésa Hedges

This was a fun read. Creepy, too, because his mother treats him like a little boy. She’s always suggesting the right way to do something, which is never his way.

He’s dating Mia and invites her round for a meal, but his mother is there, arms folded and tutting at him. He hasn’t done things the way she would, and that’s frowned upon.

It becomes even creepier when she hangs around for his date, frowning in the corner. That’s when I began to suspect something. There was still one more twist at the end that left me wondering.

A clever tale with dark humour that fits nicely into the story.

Book Blurb and Link

Some mothers find it difficult to let go. Some find it extremely difficult.

At forty-three, Roger is finally hoping for a happy relationship with Mia. But his mother has a habit of driving away his girlfriends, and this time Roger is determined things will be different.

So when Mia suggests they move in together, why does he suddenly seem so terrified?

MOTHERS RUIN is a very dark comedy about love, family, and a mother who refuses to let her son get on with his life.
