I don’t think I have ever read a book like this before. I cried towards the end, and not in a good way. These were tears of anger as I skimmed through the final few pages.
I felt utterly cheated. When I made the graphic above, I was furious and needed somewhere to vent my feelings.

Soared, Book Five was published in 2016 and is listed as the fifth of six books. The blurb says it was revised the following year with a new ending. What the hell was the original ending like?
As I reached the final pages, I already knew there was no way I would read book six. It turned out there wasn’t one, a fact other reviewers also mentioned.
Okay, so let’s summarise. The series itself was great, and I loved the characters. Looking back, the clues were there in the earlier books. It showed how ruthless the author could be.
This one started well, although the supernatural element was barely mentioned until near the end. Even then, it was unsatisfactory, never fully explained or properly resolved.
I loved the situation the characters found themselves in. It sparked my imagination, especially when they settled somewhere and began turning it into a home. Surviving wasn’t easy, but they planted their own food and planned for the future. Couples came together, babies were on the way, and humanity was rebuilding. There was even the promise of a new relationship, but that was annoyingly never followed up on.
Their new existence held so much promise, while the inevitable drama and tension could have kept the series alive.
Then it all turned really dark. I kept reading, expecting everything to come right. Instead, what happened was horrific. The story needed some balance, with the victims rescued and the villains defeated. Although, I have to say, I loved the twist involving the spy. That was very well done.
Then, suddenly, the final two chapters arrived. There was the big climax and a confrontation, but everything went wrong, including the storytelling and the plot. It completely killed the book for me. The story died along with all the main characters. Every person I had become invested in and grown to love was dead. The whole lot of them!
This turn of events left me shocked and horrified, with the awful realisation that the entire series had been a complete waste of my time. Even as I write this, I’m livid. (Can you tell?) I feel cheated out of a proper ending.
This has never happened to me before. A book has never left me feeling so infuriated.
Do not read it. Do not read the series. The premise is fantastic, but the let-down at the end was just too much. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have touched the series!
