This is the first book I’ve ever picked up because of TikTok. Whether it was the name, D’Angelo, the cover, or the promotional video itself, something about it drew me in. Whatever the reason, The D’Angelo Arrangement did not disappoint.
This is also the first time I’ve read anything by this author. I’ve seen her around on social media for years, but we’ve never interacted. There’s no particular reason, it’s just one of those things. I had no idea she was such a brilliant writer or what I’d been missing.
From the opening page, Elena’s first-person narration completely drew me in. Within just a few pages, her life is turned upside down, and I was hooked.
Then we meet Enzo, whose looks and charisma charm everyone he encounters. Beneath that cool, confident exterior, however, lies a darkness that Elena gradually uncovers.
I loved his home on an island near Italy. It was described so vividly that I felt everything Elena experienced. One scene that particularly stayed with me was when she returned home and walked through her local park. It was portrayed as so many urban green spaces are, with gangs of youths and litter scattered around. It felt a million miles away from the fresh air, peace, and breathtaking sea views of the island.
I desperately wanted everything to work out for Elena, and when the story reached its climax, the author handled it with real skill, leaving me completely satisfied.
At that point, I wondered where the story could possibly go next because it could easily have ended there. But no, the author had one more surprise up her sleeve that I never saw coming. I was just as horrified as Elena when it unfolded.
With several more unexpected twists, this became one of the most satisfying and entertaining books I’ve read in a long time. Enzo made a magnificent book boyfriend. Elena was a wonderful protagonist: feminine, vulnerable, resilient, and ultimately strong enough to make the right decisions.
I honestly can’t find the words to express how much I loved this story. It was everything I want in a romance: emotionally rich, beautifully atmospheric, and filled with evocative settings. It also explores several dark themes, all of which combine to create an utterly compelling and unforgettable read.
