The Devil’s Pawn by Tracie Delaney

Before I was born, my father bound me to the powerful De Vil family.

One agreement, forged in greed, turned my entire future into a transaction.

In four days, I’ll marry Alexander De Vil, the brooding heir to the De Vil Dynasty.

My Review

This book had a lot of things I don’t usually like: steamy scenes, a dominant, arrogant man, and 426 pages – yet I read every one of them.

Why? Because the storyline trapped me. It slowly reeled me in, and I fell hook, line, and sinker. The writing was superb, and the steamy scenes didn’t begin until well after the plot had caught me in its net.

That said, I didn’t like Alexander. He could never be my book boyfriend. He’s a damaged man with a past that still haunts him, and while I sympathised, it didn’t change my mind.

Despite that, I don’t regret reading it, and there were times I genuinely enjoyed it.

The author also did something special at the end – something I’ve never seen done before. I admired that. Very clever, but no spoilers.

There are four books in the series, each focusing on a different brother. The next book sounds exciting, and the lines have been drawn so I know what to expect in the second book.

Will I read it? The simple answer is no. This was a great one-off book for me, but of course with these things, never say never.

Having said that, I still recommend it, and if this is your type of book, I guarantee you’ll adore it.

Before I was born, my father bound me to the powerful De Vil family.

One agreement, forged in greed, turned my entire future into a transaction.

In four days, I’ll marry Alexander De Vil, the brooding heir to the De Vil Dynasty.

I know my place. My parents drilled my future role into me. Be a dutiful wife, an outstanding host, produce an heir and a spare to continue the family legacy.

Little more than a pawn in his strategic mind games.

What he doesn’t realize is I have a few mind games of my own up my sleeve. My arranged husband is about to find out I’m nobody’s pawn.

But as the battles commence, the lines between love and hate begin to blur.
Is he truly a devil in a sharp suit, or the happy ever after I’ve always craved?
