One Christmas is my own story that I based her3. It was an absolute pleasure to write this fictional tale because I could set it around the area. I live. The villages mentioned I visit regularly.
My village is one main road with lanes coming of it. We once had a shop and a pub but both have long gone. Instead, we can go to Valley, a twenty-minute walk. A bigger village where they have everything you may need without going to the towns further away.
Valley is centred around a crossroads where the village and shops are situated. A well-known landmark is The Valley Hotel, which is a restaurant and a pub, as well as having becrooms. It’s inside the bar that I’ve based some of the story and where sisters Tina and Dawn meet up unexpectedly, much to Tina’s chagrin because she’s on a date. The man she is with is a dashing pilot from nearby RAF Valley.
Elis’s family lives in a manor house in Rhoscolyn, a tiny village by the sea. There is a large manor house there owned by an eminent family. I used that as an inspiration .
The story starts on Christmas Eve, and finishes on Christmas Day the following year.
