Home for the Holidays by Louise Emmerson

My Review

You know how I love a novella, well, I also love a good Christmas story. This was all of that and more.

Claire broke her boyfriend Jack’s heart when she left their small Scottish town for a job in London.

Each time she returns at Christmas, she’s drawn back into the past, and inevitably she runs into Jack. She discovers that her feelings for him never seem to diminish.

What I enjoyed most about this is the single point of view. We only ever know what Claire thinks. Jack’s thoughts are left to Claire’s imagination, which adds an air of mystery to him.

Home for the Holidays is a sweet, festive tale that makes you feel good. All the elements of Christmas are there, the snowstorms, nativities, ice skating, and plenty of festive cheer.

It’s the perfect accompaniment to your Christmas reading. I highly recommend it.

I read this author’s debut novel, released a few months ago, and I loved her style and the way she expresses emotion through her characters. It’s heartfelt, my breath caught in my throat at perfectly poignant moments.

I think you will like her too.

One kiss could change everything this Christmas.

After ten years chasing success in the ‘big smoke’, Claire Dawson never thought she’d find herself back in the sleepy little town she once called home. But when an emergency unexpectedly has her returning for a month before Christmas, she vows to keep things simple: spend time with family, soak in the Christmas cheer and avoid Jack Turner, the man she left behind.

Fate, however, has other plans.

When Claire is roped into co-organising the children’s nativity festival alongside Jack, old sparks begin to flicker amid twinkling lights and carols. One stolen kiss threatens to melt the years of distance between them, leaving Claire torn between the glittering career she built in the city and the love she thought she’d lost forever.

A heartwarming holiday romance about coming home, rediscovering love, and finding where you truly belong.
