Author Karen J. Mossman’s Newsletter – May

It been a long time since I’ve done one of these. I’ve often wondered if I should have a newsletter as so many authors do. But I quickly came to the conclusion that all my news and posts go here my website. I wouldn’t be able to produce something different.

The sun is shining here in Anglesey and we have started the day with a bacon butty – that’s a bacon and egg sandwich if you are not familiar with term.

During the week I took the dogs to beach and it was beautiful and tranquil. Take a look.

I’ve relaunched my YouTube channel. I did have around 17 subscribers but as I posted nothing for several years, they dropped off until two remained. A resurgence saw the number increase slightly.

I envy authors who regularly post saying they are writing something new, or about to begin the next novel. I would love to be able to do that as I have so many stories fighting to get out.

Five or so years ago, I took my books down to rewrite them. I had no idea what a massive tasks that was. We authors learn all the time and many of us feel we could do a better job.

So starting new doesn’t feel right until I get the old ones back up. I’ve managed to get six republished, including three new ones,. I’ve also got three anthologies back on the shelf.

Now I find myself in a unique position. I’m working on three stories at the same time and yesterday managed to get some work done on them all. Hopefully, today will be the same.

This one has had to have a complete rewrite. It was originally written with another author. She had more of a spicy version.

Now, the story is not joint, I’m changing it completely. Same characters, same plot, just a more engaging storyline.

I designed the cover myself and I’ve always liked it, so don’t feel the need to replace it with a new one.

Ghostly Rites anthology was something I was involved with almost ten years ago when it first started. Each year a new one was published and where possible it was free to download. I haven’t been involved for a long time and this year I am. It has also changed hands in that time. It will be released in October. So, I am currently working on a ghost story set in Anglesey. It doesn’t have a name yet, nor an ending. I’m hoping to come up with that shortly.

This book was the first one I ever wrote back in the 1980s, where it was set. When I look back it had good reviews, but I always felt it was flawed.

I’m known for my novellas but this one is a full novel, and it also has a second book, set a decade later. It too, had good reviews.

I still love the story, and I need to get it back up before I can move on with anything else.

As I’m working on it, I can see how good the story is and I want to share it.

Lastly, I’m trying to get my books into paperbacks. The first one is done. A Cry in the Night was delivered a few days ago amd I’m very pleased with it. The cover, designed by J.M. Northup, is stunning and in keeping with the story perfectly,

Next one is my largest book Play the Game, although I’m struggling to get the dimensions of the cover right. I’m hoping this time after more adjustments, it will be right.
