My Review of Unquiet Bones by a David Gatward

A gruesome spellbinding story!

Unquiet Bones by David J. Gatward.

Crime thriller series, book twelve.

Rating: 5 Stars

This was by far the grisliest of the stories, I’ve read in this series. Harry’s unwanted housewarming gift means he’s unable to move into his new house.

There was also a second storyline going on which was interesting. Especially because I didn’t know they were connected.

A slight mystery at the end, which I didn’t understand. Who is the detective that helps them out? Maybe it will come out in the next book. But it was odd as there was no explanation.

As usual, good story, great humour and delicious descriptions of the dales.

This book is also standalone. The storyline and excellent plot is this:

When move-in day turns fatal, will facing up to his past prove deadly?

Detective Chief Inspector Harry Grimm has the keys to hope. Excited but nervous over claiming his new house, he’s tying himself even tighter to his adopted community. But he can’t contain his horrified surprise when a mutilated corpse in the lounge makes him the owner of a gruesome crime scene.

With markings on the body showing a disturbing link to his time in Afghanistan, Grimm shivers with alarm as his team discovers the victim’s identity. And when he’s taken off the case, the stoic cop pursues answers on his own out of fear he’s about to be shattered by his bloody past.

Will he hunt down the killer…or is Grimm about to become the prey?

Unquiet Bones is the page-turning twelfth book in the DCI Harry Grimm Crime Thrillers series. If you like besieged heroes, races against time, and nail-biting mysteries, then you’ll love David J. Gatward’s restless pursuit.

My Favourite Bits

As for the victim, if such a word could be used to describe him, considering the pain and hurt he had caused so many others, well, he had it coming. He wasn’t the first, wouldn’t be the last.

The odd feeling grew stronger as Harry , having driven through Aysgarth and on towards Bainbridge, took a left out of the village to take the home run on towards Hawes. And that was when he realised exactly what it was. For the first time, possibly in forever, Harry felt like he was heading home.

The bonfire was held in a field on the edge of Hawes and as far as Harry could tell, most of the population of the small market town, and of Gayle, must have turned up. Families huddled together in the fire-lit darkness, staring into the flames reaching up to toast the sky. The air was rich with the smell of burning wood, barbequed sausages, and jacket potatoes, all of it resting gently in air cold enough to warrant bobble hats and thick coats wherever he looked.
