My Review of Karen’s New Year

An interesting, unexpected date.

Karen’s New Year by Anne Brooke

A short romantic story

Rating: 4 Stars

Available to download from Kindle Unlimited

I admit I chose this because of the name. Karen is not in favour anymore. No stories have Karen as a heroine. All there is left is a ‘Karen’, and who wants to be that? Well, some of us are, and we have to defend our name. So the Karen of this story is a champion!

I’m so glad I chose it. We go on a works party with Karen and the evening does not turn out how she thought it would. All in a positive way. The night turns out even better.

Karen’s New Year is an uncomplicated plot. It’s straight forward and to the point. Simple, well told, and entertaining and that sums up this book.

An interesting point is that as authors we are told to show and don’t tell. This story is mostly tell. It works because it’s well written, and it is a short story.

I read this in half an hour whilst waiting for an appointment. It passed the time beautifully and the book was a perfect accompaniment.

Recommended quick read.

The storyline is simple and superb. This is what toy get:

Karen’s love life might be about to change for the better …

Karen thinks of herself as a calm and reasonable professional woman in her forties who is used to being single.

However, an unexpected encounter at a New Year company event might have the power to make her reconsider. Could there be space in her life for someone totally unsuitable?…

Perfect for fans of unexpected romance.

My Favourite Bits

This was how Karen met her man. It was a work event. A New Year party – something to boost office morale for the year ahead.

By the time she reached the foyer where the champagne reception was taking place, she was satisfied with the way she looked and ready to enjoy her evening. The first person she saw was her companion from the bus.

He smiled when he saw her and she could feel herself smiling back. That strange thing happened again, that had happened at the dining table – the feeling of everything else around her, the people, the noise, the music – disappearing into the shadows so the only thing she could see and hear was him.
