Oh No! Disaster!

I cross stitch squares for a charity who makes quilts for children with life long or life threatening illnesses. I’ve been doing this since 2012, when my adopted sister received one.

On Sunday I had an email to say that the fabric used for one of the quilts I stitched for had bled when washed. It stained all everything!

Love Quilts have put together over two thousand quilts and this has never happened before. What disaster!

On Sunday 12th January the twelve stitchers who are based all over the UK, were informed. This included me, We were given the choice of opting out or re-stitching our square. When I checked to see which pattern I’d stitched, I admit, it felt deflating and daunting.

I had to re-stitch the one I had done previously because stupidly I measured centre metres instead of inches and that made it too small. Luckily it was an easy and quick to stitch.

However, this one isn’t. It’s more intricate and originally took me at least two months to complete.

I considered not doing it, especially because in the email it said there is no obligation and they have stitchers who didn’t get onto the original and would be happy to fill in,

Here is the original, and the quilt it went onto.

After giving it some thought, I felt like I should redo it. I have gone through my stash, selected my threads and cut the fabric. As we visited family and they watched the football, I started stitching the same day.

I will update you in a month with my progress.

You can see all the ones I have stitched over the years here.

      1. Thanks, great. I once lost a chapter in a book I was writing. I was devasted! Then I rewrote it and enjoyed doing it. In the end it was a much better chapter too. So I understand.
