It’s something we as pet lovers have to go through at some stage. Sarah poured her grief in words.
My dog was a 16-year old Yorkie called Jodie. In 2017 we took her on her final journal. It was the hardest thing we’’d ever had to do.

We’re all just trying to fill the void,
The space that you left, a gap so wide.
It builds a pressure deep inside,
In our chests where emotions hide.
The living room rug, once your playful ground,
Now open and bare, without a sound.
The dish in the kitchen, once filled with care,
Sits empty, a reminder you’re no longer there.
We wake in the morning, covering our ears,
The silence so deafening, it brings us to tears.
Since you’ve disappeared, we search for a task,
Seeking distraction, behind which to mask.
We’re all trying to find something to do,
To occupy our minds, now we’re without you.
Though none of us lonely, alone we all feel,
Missing you in our hearts, the loss is real.
Without a dog in our home, without a dog in our heart,
We wander, we ponder, how to restart.
In a world now a little less whole,
We miss the love of a dog, the one who filled our soul.
