My Review of Murder and Other Love Stories by Bruce A. Hanson

I saw this posted on Facebook by Pauline Reid, who is a great reviewer. She gave such a great reviewer and I had to read it for myself.

A different kind of review is always a change.

Twins – if the rest of stories start off as well written as this, I’m in for a treat. Although I guessed the twist of this murderous tale, it was interesting to read.

The Salesman – this was a good story and it read like a novel with twists and turns. It was clever, but unfortunately, I didn’t understand the ending. It was such a good twist that it went straight over my head!

The Order – nice to have a little science fiction included although it was too short for me to fully understand what was happening,

The Saviour – an interesting story in the days of slavery, when two kids decide on a prank which backfires. It seemed the slave boy was blamed, but once more I didn’t find the ending very clear.

The Unknown Civilian – for this one we are in war time, and I can only imagine it’s about a boy who wants to take revenge for the loss of his family, a shorter story this time.

The Performer – a sweet and sensual romance set in the very early days of London. It’s about a man whose passion is his violin and a young women with the voice of an angel.

Daddy’s Home – I like a story that unfolds and makes you guess who the narrator is. This time it’s Carly, and her story will make you weep.

The Artist – flash fiction is so much fun, and this small story is about an artist signing a painting. Of course, a little twist in the tale.

The Swimmer – we take a trip with the swimmer across the water as she lets her memories boil over. Steve is the man that fills her mind.

The Dreamer – we’ve all day-dreamed and this is a fun story. It comes to fruition when the guy begins to date the girl he couldn’t get out of his mind. Except, not all stories finish how you’d expect.

The Marksman – Some of this was hard to follow. But what I did understand, was good. Two stories seemed to run together coming to an explosive end. It’s love and murder.

The Collector – an exciting story with a great twist in the middle. Love and murder go hand in hand.

Body Art – very short inspiration, flash fiction. Over to quickly too make any comment.

In Collusion – is poetry and I’d enjoyed the lyrical words and the story it told.

Overall, it’s a good collection of short stories. They are varied and very different from each other. My favourite is probably The Artist, although a close second was The Collector. Well worth a read. I recommend it.
