Where did I find it: it’s book 4 of the series.
What I liked: the relationship between Cormoran Strike and his assistant, Robin Ellacot. It’s been a slow lead up over the last three books. In this one their feelings for each other are clear, but I’m not sure whether they will act upon them. That will remain to be seen in future books. Both are in difficult relationships with other people, and in the authors inimitable style, we get the full stories of each. All of this along with the crime, and the red herrings, makes it one of the largest books I’ve read at 649 pages. Another thing I really liked, was the unusual names. Most of the characters had names I’d not heard of and that added yet another dimension to the storyline.
What I didn’t like: there is nothing to dislike, apart from the odd, offensive word, which I mentioned in the third book. Perhaps maybe how cruelty from the past makes a damaged adult of today.
Overall: this is a superbly crafted crime story. Strike suffers with the stump of his amputated leg. That’s because he over does it with situations he has no control over. Galbraith is great at describing people and giving them unique characteristics. As a reader, you live and breathe the story and get totally involved. I’m already looking forward to starting the next one.
As the author is a big name, the books are expensive. So I bought a cheap copy with free postage on eBay. I thought I’d ordered a paperback, but it turned out to be a hardback. A challenge given it’s size, but worth it, as I thoroughly enjoyed the whole story. Crime lovers, this one is for you. 😊

A Six Book Series.
