Born this day in 1944 with the grand name of Alice Malsenior Tallulah-Kate Walker. Apart from writing novels, she is a short story writer, poet, and social activist.
She became the first African-American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
Alice has a great talent for poetry. They are well crafted and shows the creativity of the mind behind them. They are described as simple enough for people who are not poetry experts to understand.
It was her book The Colour Purple that won the Pulitzer Prize and also won a National Book Award. A stunning story that documents the traumas and gradual triumph of Celie, an African American teenager raised in rural isolation in Georgia. She narrates her life through painfully honest letters to God.
Celebrate the birthday of Alice by reading one his books.

She is amazing. I love her writing.

I knew she wrote The Colour Purple, but until researching this article I didn’t know anything about her. Fascinating woman.
