Teenagers Don and Janet run off to California to start a new life together. Along the way, they find themselves in a dangerous land. Did they inadvertently time travel to a future Earth? Or, a parallel universe?
One of the nomadic tribes they encounter rescues the young couple. These small groups journey endlessly, searching for food and water. The brutal leaders of the Ganu Camp take whatever meager supplies they discover. Yearning to break free from enslavement, they hail Don as their prophesied savior.
Now, faced with a lost-cause battle, the teenagers must defend their new friends with the only weapons available to them. How will they defeat a powerful enemy with only skyrockets, firecrackers, and a dog whistle?

Even though the main characters are teenagers, this is NOT a YA or children book. There are violence and sexual content.
Pictures telling stories is a new feature on the Magic of Stories. It helps to visualise it when we see photographs representing the story itself. The first one shows Don & Janet, the teenage characters who time travel to a distant dystopian future. They end up in a desert waste-land with cinnamon sand and a green sky.
Finally, we see Dal Barton on the bottom right, who is one of the people of a nomadic tribe that wanders the desert looking for food and water for The Ganu Camp. They ride mutant beasts who are a cross between a cat & a lizard.

The premise of the book is something I think true sci fi fans will love, two teens on a road trip, end up waking up over a thousand years into the future, in a land where radioactive creatures and danger at every turn. It kept me reading to the very end, and the couple Don and Janet are certainly likeable hero/heroines to keep you wanting to read more by this author.’
‘I read this book while travelling recently and found it exciting and fast paced. The first chapter captivated me and I got so engrossed in the story that I didn’t stop reading it till the end. Don and Janet are a hilarious couple and I found myself smiling or laughing in a few scenes.
