…Suddenly, everything around us eruptedinto pandemonium. First, the air around us turned to a gusting wind, blowing myhair into my face. Next, the candles were blown out, leaving us in pitchblackness. The wind then stopped just as suddenly as it had started, and aneerie cold filled the air. I looked down in disbelief as my breath revealed afrosty cloud. Cassie screamed and the sound was horrific; her voice was high andshrill, penetrating my ears. A sinister laugh crept into my ears, “Youcan’t be saved from yourself. You should know better, Ember.” A thick airsurrounded me like a bubble encasing me. I tried to get up and run, but my bodyseemed heavy and restricted, my movements slow as if I were stuck in gelatin. And then, just like that, everything was back to normal.
