Aftermath by Lena Gibson

My Review

After reading the first book, I couldn’t wait to start this one. I was desperate to know what life in the bunker was like and how Kat and Ryan fared. Were there more disruptions from the asteroid? In between, I read four other books, but this one was constantly on my mind. When I finally got to it, my anticipation was high.

This story follows Robin and Kory as they find each other after the impact. They eventually head for the same bunker as Kat and Ryan, with the novel focuses on their journey, and the way their relationship develops. There are many connections to the first book, which I appreciated once I adjusted my expectations. With authors I know and trust, I often only read the blurb when I come to write my review.

The book is longer than I would usually choose and, although I enjoyed it, I did feel the length at times. There is a lot to explore and, if you enjoy both romance and post apocalyptic fiction, it is worth reading. If you’ve not tried this blend of genres before, it might surprise you.

One thing I noticed from the many reviews is how disappointed readers were that there were no further books. It ends satisfactorily, but there is plenty of scope for more. Let’s hope the author is working on them.

If you this piques your interest, you might like to read the first review.

Book Blurb and Link

Robin dreamed of attending Yale and using her brain. Kory lived on the streets of Seattle and relied on his brawn. Without the asteroid, they never would have met.

For three years, Robin and her grandfather have been hiding, trusting no one. When a biker gang moves into town, Robin can no longer scrounge or tend her garden. Because her grandfather is dying, he urges her to join her extended family—800 miles away in a bunker city in South Dakota, but she doesn’t want to leave.

Desperate, her grandfather disappears to force Robin into action and meets Kory, who’s with the bikers but disillusioned. Seeing a man who likes to read and could protect his granddaughter, he convinces Kory he can start over and accompany Robin on the long journey.

Unaware of her grandfather’s plan, Robin exposes her hiding place searching for him, and Kory saves her. On the run, they battle the elements and survivalists, learning to trust each other. If they can’t reach the safety of Vita xTerra, they won’t survive long enough to have a future together.

Prepare for another non-stop, post-apocalyptic road trip in Aftermath: Into the Unknown as they fight for love and survival.
