My Review
This was an absolutely fun read. I love short stories, and these felt a little different from those I’ve read before. Many were strong, complete tales in their own right — I especially loved the one about the ghost in the haunted house. There are probably plenty here that readers could mark as favourites.
The ones I enjoyed most began like perfectly normal stories and then slipped into something wonderfully absurd — yet it worked, and I found myself believing every word. The cats made me chuckle because I certainly didn’t see that coming. There were plenty of other moments that caught my imagination too, but I’ll let you discover those for yourself
What also made this collection stand out was that some twists were uplifting rather than shocking, adding a lovely feel-good factor — and we could all do with more of that. Anne Perry has a wonderful imagination that deserves a wider audience. If you’re looking for something a little different, I would definitely recommend this collection.
