#FictionFriday – 1

For my new feature #FictionFriday, I’m sharing excerpt from my latest release Toxic.

As a multi genre novella writer, I’m slowly working my way through different themes. As I love post apocalyptic fiction, I’m please to be able to add this to my collection.

A wave of applause went up, and Lexi felt her knees sag. If Aron’s arm had not been firmly on her waist, she’d have dropped to the ground as a wave of shock coursed through her.

“Easy, I got you,” Aron said, turning towards her to make sure she didn’t fall completely.

Lexi’s face turned white as her gaze fell on the bully who had made her childhood such a misery.

Lexi was born with pale blue eyes. Her parents were told that although she would have some vision, she would eventually lose her sight completely. The discovery of the miracle plant, Dozac, saved her vision. Discovered not long before she was born, she was always told by her parents how lucky she was. Years of torment would be over, or so Lexi thought. Unfortunately, it left a slight luminous green tint in her pupils.

It was the reason she wanted to become a ranger. Protecting the Terra plant meant that others would benefit from it as much as she had.

Before she knew it, she began to shake, transported back to that time. She couldn’t breathe anymore as the room closed in on her.

“Come on.” Aron manoeuvred her back through the crowd, who had turned to look at her. Mavie and Belle followed with worried expressions.

“Shall we call a medic?” a young, female malok asked as they exited.

“No, it’s okay,” Aron said as he sat Lexi down on a nearby bench.

“I’ll get her some water,” the woman offered.

Belle and Mavie crouched down on either side of their friend, worried expressions on their faces.

“Slow your breathing down,” Belle suggested as Lexi continued to gasp, her hand to her chest.

Mavie took slow breaths. “Like this. Come on, Lexi. You got this.”
