My Review
An idyllic setting is where this short story begins. An older lady sits in the garden of her cottage, overlooking the sea and enjoying life as a retiree. Although her new life is good, there are things beneath the surface that cause a ripple. It starts with her sister coming to live with her.
At eighty pages long, The Swimmer is a satisfying read. A young man walks by as she sits in the garden. He greets her, and she watches him go for a swim. Except he doesn’t come back, and therein lies the crux of the story.
Mystery, sibling rivalry, infatuation, and a love twist, all set against the backdrop for a of a gorgeous village by the sea. I highly recommend it.
I read a novel by Graham Norton a few years ago and loved it, so I knew this one would be good — any it is!
