My Review
I’ve seen this advertised a lot recently and knew I would be reading it at some point – and now is that time. I also suspected it would be a good story, and guess what? It’s exactly that!
I first came across Nova and Donavan in another of Kyra Lennon’s books. They had the tiniest of parts – fleeting, if I remember correctly. I love characters who cross over into other stories, whether they’re part of the same series or not.
Rewriting Christmas refers to a list that Nova made for Donavan, and when I came across it, it was an ahh moment. Everything suddenly made sense.
I would call this a cosy read. With Nan and Nova’s parents playing key roles, it feels familiar and comforting. Except, of course, don’t get too comfortable – Nova and Donavan’s romance is anything but straightforward. It gets off to a rocky start, and just when you think things are okay, the author throws in a curveball.
I particularly enjoyed Christmas Day with them: the exchanging of gifts, the little jokes, and, of course, a lovely meal. It made me feel good, because there is nothing like being with the ones you love on the big day.
There is a slight problem in the story, and I knew a compromise would have to be reached, though I couldn’t work out how. When it came, it was perfect – the kind of ending you really want, leaving you with a warm, satisfied feeling.
Rewriting Christmas is part of the Oakwood Lane series.

When Nova McKay drops by her elderly neighbour’s house for some festive cheer, she doesn’t expect her past to come knocking too…
Renowned travel blogger Donovan Cain has returned to England for the first time in a decade, reluctantly trading exotic locales for the small-town life he left behind. Tasked with supporting his recently widowed grandmother, Donovan’s visit stirs up more than nostalgia when Nova realises he’s “little Donnie”—her childhood playmate from long-ago Christmases. But the boy she once knew has grown into a tall, broad-shouldered man with a brooding edge that’s impossible to ignore.
Yet, the years haven’t been entirely kind to Donovan. Cynical and restless, he’s more focused on escaping back to his jet-setting lifestyle than embracing the warmth of the season. Frustrated by his attitude, Nova takes it upon herself to show him there’s more to small-town life—and love—than he remembers.
Can Nova thaw his frosty outlook and rekindle the magic of his childhood Christmases? Or will Donovan’s wanderlust lead him to leave her—and his grandmother—behind once more?

Re-Writing Christmas is a standalone small-town friends to lovers holiday romance set in England (UK). It has elements of hurt/comfort and grumpy/sunshine, along with a feisty grandmother, and large amounts of Hallmark-esque festive cuteness.
