I blinked and it was Gone!

Gone because I read it so quickly and couldn’t put it down!

Flynn has a younger brother to support, and when he is convicted of a crime, he’s terrified that his brother will end up in care. I loved their relationship. I also adored the elderly lady who befriended them, what a heart-warming part of the story that was.

Then we meet Harper, who, after a terrible accident, can’t seem to recover. Every day she lies mute and motionless in her hospital bed. The only person who really sees her is Flynn. Their bond warmed my heart as Harper found something worth fighting for.

There were even moments that made me chuckle. The Alice in Wonderland scene, for one. And Penny—with the “awesome rack”—oh boy, that really set me off. I thought it was clever how Penny didn’t turn out to be quite as dumb as first suspected.

And lastly, the dark part. Dark enough to make me wince and feel alarmed. Without giving anything away, I’ll just say it was handled and resolved in a very satisfying way.

Caroline Easton is a fine writer. This is the second of her books I’ve read, and she has such a gift for words. She knows how to draw you in and keep you wrapped up in her world right through to the end.

Book Blurb

Flynn Sullivan hasn’t had the easiest of lives, with his father absent and following the death of his mother, he is desperate to give his younger brother the life he deserves. Flynn finds himself on the wrong side of the law and he knows he could lose everything in the blink of an eye, as he stands before the court awaiting his fate. Harper Lawrence was a major contender in the IndyCar circuit from the very first day she got behind the wheel of a car. Her life is turned on its axis after a tragic accident, leaving her locked inside her own body, all but switched off to the outside world. When Flynn and Harper’s world’s collide the sparks begin to fly, but each one holds a secret they don’t want to share. Flynn knows he needs to save the girl who’s stolen his heart, the problem is, Harper doesn’t believe she deserves to be saved. She doesn’t believe she’s been punished enough.

Excerpts

Please don’t do this again. Please just walk away and nobody need ever know. I’m pleading internally, even though I know I’m going to have to physically open my mouth and ask him to stop.

The returning smile she gives me is incredible. Nobody has ever looked at me the way that Harper does. It gives me a strange burning sensation right in the middle of my chest, causing warmth to spread to the tips of my fingers and toes. Harper truly is breathtaking, and the best thing about her is that she has no idea of the affect she has on me.

Apart from that, I don’t know if I’ll be allowed back there to finish my sentence now. Which is shit, ‘cause now my probation officer will have to find somewhere else willing to take on a shit bag like me just so I can complete the next few weeks.
