This is book two of the Healing Duet. The first one followed shifter Calvin as he found his soulmate in Paisleigh. In this book, Keiron—his best friend and a fun character—takes centre stage.
I haven’t read many shifter stories, but I do enjoy them when I do. This one begins with Harlow, who is part of a Search and Rescue team in Scotland. I would have liked more of this aspect, as search and rescue is such an interesting subject, especially when you add wolves into the mix. While out looking for missing teenagers, Harlow is kidnapped and taken to a house of ill repute.
Shifters in this world know instinctively when they meet their soulmate. During a rescue attempt with Calvin, Keiron comes across Harlow. They both know immediately, but because of the circumstances, they can’t be together right away.
Although I enjoyed the story, it didn’t hold me quite as much as the first book. The beginning felt rushed. I loved Keiron’s character—quirky and funny—but even though he was under stress, he didn’t feel like the same person from book one.
I enjoyed the cast of characters in this series and wanted more from them. In particular, I would have liked to know Talia’s story. She was rescued too, and befriended by Harlow. With no one else to turn to, she was brought into Harlow’s pack. But what happened to her afterwards? Did she recover, and more importantly, did she find her mate?
If you love wolves, you’ll love this series.
Book Blurb
The Shetlands suddenly don’t seem so dull after all…
Keiron has been conditioned his whole life to become the Beta wolf of his pack when he comes of age, and it’s what he has worked tirelessly for. It’s his only priority in life… until a boys’ trip to Aberdeen turns his straightforward, easy going life into a spin.
Keiron stumbles across his soulmate, which should be the best moment of his life, but finding his mate in such dire straits is messing with him physically and mentally. His head and his heart are warring with one another, and for the first time in his life, he doesn’t know whether he’s coming or going.
Harlow has always been a strong, independent wolf shifter who loves nothing more than exploring the mountains with her mountain rescue team… until she takes her eye off the ball and the mountains become her downfall.
Being captured by the enemy, thrust into a powerful sex slave ring, and left without her abilities, Harlow needs to find a way to stay strong and survive the worst moments of her life.
Harlow and Keiron don’t only have to figure out their lives, they need to decide if their feelings for one another are justified.
Can Harlow move to a remote island away from everything she once knew?
Can Keiron convince Harlow that his island is meant for her, and that nothing will ever hurt her again?
One thing is for sure, The Shetlands are never going to be the same again.
Good Bits
“She comes across as strong, and she is… or was. Don’t tell her I told you this, but I’m just not sure what this latest ordeal has done to her.” He taps his temple. “Up here. She hasn’t told us anything about what happened, but I know it was bad.”
The cool morning air hits me the moment I exit the cabin. I stop on the steps and turn to Keiron. “Earlier, just before Carlyle came downstairs, I had a weird feeling. The hairs on the back of my neck stood to attention. I thought it was because you and Carlyle were going to be in the same room together, but now I’m not so sure.”
