I’m not a lover of sport and have always avoided stories that involve it. Yet here I am, reading my second ice hockey book. It’s just a coincidence that both feature the same game.

What I’ve now realised is that the sport element is simply a backdrop—something that gives the story more zest. You don’t need to follow or understand it to enjoy the book.

From the moment I read the first paragraph, I knew it would appeal to me. The author has a way with words that drew me in, and it didn’t take long for me to become invested in the characters. What a fantastic debut novel!

Norah is a single mother raising her daughter, who is training to become a professional hockey player. Having a baby put an end to Norah’s own career—something she still regrets—but she now finds joy in the skill and talent of her child.

When her childhood sweetheart, Caleb, returns from Canada as an ice hockey star, Norah’s world is turned upside down. She is cold towards him at first, but Caleb soon learns how to melt her icy exterior. As their love of the sport grows, so too does their rekindled romance, in a beautifully told tale.

I highly recommend this story. It’s a warm, engaging, and thoroughly entertaining read.

Book Blurb

He left without a word… now he wants a second chance.

Norah Maddon never thought she would see Caleb Sparks again, especially not on their hometown rink after he left to chase his ice hockey dreams, shattering her heart in the process.

Thirteen years later, she’s built a quiet life for herself and her daughter, Lena. A life that never involved telling Caleb he’s Lena’s father. Caleb’s arrival threatens everything Norah has kept hidden, especially as he has the power, fame, and money to make things difficult for her.

As Caleb and Norah navigate old wounds, unfinished business, and the spark that never died, one truth could change everything. Can they rewrite their ending—or is the ice between them too thick to break?
Told in dual POV, Hockey and Heartstrings is a secret child, small-town hockey romance full of emotion, redemption, and the kind of love that deserves a second shot.

My Favourite Bits

“Don’t forget I’ve got a track tryout tonight. Can you be at school at three, please, to drive us over to the stadium?”

Lena put on her biggest fake smile in an attempt to butter me up. She also hugged me and placed a kiss on my temple.

“I’m here. Table for two. Caleb Sparks.”

He spoke with confidence to the hostess, who I could see was taken aback by the view in front of her. I was sure she was attempting to stop herself from ogling the man who filled the entranceway.

Closing the front door with a click, I sank back against it. My head dropped forward; I didn’t want the tears that were threatening to fall. I stood still in the silence, trying to take in what had been said.
