Immensely Enjoyable!

Found Beyond the Tide by N. Dune
Book 2 in a romantic suspense trilogy
Rating: 5 Stars
368 pages

I enjoyed book one in this series and N. Dune is a new to me author.
This, the second book, is about Connor and Tilly, part of a group of friends we were introduced to in the first story. Although, Tilly is also the sister of Jay.
The setting in Cornwall is beautiful. Sun, sand, surfing, beach side cafes, a pub, and the lifeboat. All make superb world building.
The setting is perfect and the characters became real people. I felt like I was part of their crowd. The men utterly handsome and the women, vulnerable and strong at the same time. Already knowing Jay and Lou’s story, they were old friends that I enjoyed spending time with again.
Marcus showed up more in this story, and hints went on about him and Chloe’s relationship. She is the sister of Lou’s violent ex partner’s previous girlfriend from the first story. They will be the topic of the third book. Which is immensely exciting..
Friends to lovers is the main troupe, which meant Tilly had grown up with Connor. They had many years of friendship and adventure behind them. As they grew up their feelings towards each other change. Being privy to both viewpoints, they each felt the same towards the other, which we knew, and they didn’t. Of course this leads to misunderstandings until finally they reach the same page.
I enjoyed the first, and perhaps the second sex scene as the build up was fun to witness. After that, I found it a little tedious being involved in their intimate moments. There also were times when I read the description of Connor and I found myself yearning to see him for real. If that happened I probably couldn’t look him in the eye knowing that I had witnessed his and Tilly’s graphic love making!
I’ve criticised authors in the past for explicit scenes, but I can’t do that here. Most times they are a bigger than the plot. You cannot say that about this book. The storyline is impeccable, suspenseful, romantic, scary, hot, and dark in places. N Dune’s ability to create an amazing, engaging story line is a real skill. She balanced everything perfectly, and I have to admire that.
A highly recommended book for readers who love spicy scenes, strong men, beautiful women, and dark romantic storylines.

This book is standalone, but far better reading what went on before. This is the blurb:
Can one kiss change everything?
Tilly’s feelings for Connor have always been complicated. She has been fighting them off since she was a teenager, believing that he couldn’t feel the same and would never see her as anything other than his best friend’s little sister.
That is until they kissed…
Connor refuses to acknowledge his feelings for Tilly. She can’t be anything more than a friend. However, his feelings of friendship morph into something more when his protective instincts take over after a maniac nearly kills her.
Could there be something more between them?
Can love and friendship triumph over the obstacles thrown in their way? Will they find love beyond the tide?
Found Beyond the Tide is a friends-to-lovers, brother’s best friend, steamy romance with a mild suspense twist. It is book two in the Beyond the Tide series, which should be read in order, and it contains some scenes of violence.

My Favourite Bits
“Look, I’m sorry, I didn’t realise you were seeing someone. Forget, I asked,” Mike says, his words rushing together. Connor can be a little intimidating sometimes, and he is, after all, a tall muscly guy with tattoos. Not everyone gets to see the silly, fun side of him the way I do.
“Come here,” he whispers as he pulls me onto his lap again, nestling me into his chest with my legs on the sofa. I lie there with him stroking my hair, wishing I never have to move from this position. He makes me feel so safe. “I’ve got you. You don’t need to worry. They will find him. He can’t hide forever. He’ll make a mistake; they always do. Marc told me that, and he sounds confident, so we need to be too.” His quiet voice and constant touching of my hair are lulling me to sleep. I close my eyes just briefly and relish the feeling of his body so close to mine. A loud knocking at the door makes me jump and pulls a curse out of Con. I guess I wasn’t the only one taking a recharge nap. He moves me onto the sofa, and I stay snuggled up under the blanket, his lingering scent keeping me calm.
Grabbing a plate of croissants, I head to the large bank of windows at the end of the airy living area. Opening the single door, which at first glance looks like the other windows, I set the plate down on the table outside. The balcony juts out over the sea wall, and at this height, at high tide, it’s pretty private. When the sea is all the way in, as it is this morning, you feel like you are sat on top of the ocean. It’s also a little exposed, so it can feel a little chilly this time of year. Inhaling the smell of salty water as the morning breeze comes off the sea, I’m glad I had the foresight to slip on a jumper before coming out here.
