A Cracking Good Read!

Romantic Shifter Duet
Rating: 5 Stars

Sometimes a book comes along that takes you completely by surprise.
I featured the cover reveal for the second book here, and thought the first book sounded interesting.
It turned out to be more than that. I absolutely loved it.
The concept was a simple shifter story but a powerful tale of soulmates.
Paisleigh had been set aside by her father and sold on as a sex slave. On the ferry to the mainland, she encounters Calvin. He and his best friend, Keiron, were on a trip to Aberdeen for a lad’s week before Calvin became the pack alpha. A job he didn’t want,
I loved that it was based in Shetland, a small group of islands at the top of Scotland. I loved the colloquialism and how they used their own every day vocabulary with words only used in that area.
To my delight the author has plenty of books and the majority are just over 200 pages, I will definitely be reading a lot more from her.
Highly recommended for all fans of shifter stories—featuring charming characters and an engaging plot.

This book is also standalone, but the first story is part of a duet.
Turning twenty-one is a huge milestone for anyone, but for Calvin, it’s a life-changing moment. On his twenty-first birthday, he’s to take over his family pack. This should be a blessing. A new beginning for him and his family, but it’s quite the opposite.
Calvin has spent his whole life being conditioned and trained for this role. As the first-born son, it’s his duty to his family. A rule that has gone by for generations. One his father is keen to follow on.
However, as his birthday approaches, he is given a gift by his mother. He can travel to the mainland and live the life of a normal, happy-go-lucky twenty-year-old on one condition – he returns for his birthday and decides whether to take up the role as Alpha or walk away.
Painting the town red should be the only thing Calvin has on his mind, but when his path crosses with a girl he discovers is in trouble, his wolf decides that they’re on a mission.
Paisleigh has always been different. Her pack has left her to wallow in her own little world… until an opportunity comes along, and they sell her to pay for a debt they owe.
Paisleigh always wanted to get away from her pack, but not like this.
What was supposed to be a week away from pack life turns into a week where Calvin has to call upon his wolf and other paranormal beings to help him find the girl before it’s too late. It’s a quest he never thought he’d embark on in his life.
Has Calvin got what it takes to save Paisleigh, figure out his life, and return to the pack he calls

My Favourite Bits
The problem I have—and it’s not the rules and regulations of my pack—is that I believe in love. I’ve read so many romance novels and watched so many romantic chick flicks that I won’t settle for anything less. I want the knight to ride in and save the day. I want someone to love me, care for me, allow me to follow my dreams.
I have no idea how long I’ve been stuck in this horrible basement. I’m hungry, thirsty, and I stink. I can smell myself and it makes me heave. I can’t stand being dirty. I like things to be clean and tidy. Everything in my life has order, even the dingy shed I call home. I can’t help it if I’m stuck in my ways, but the more I think about it, maybe that’s why my family packed me off to the first person who came on the scene. It certainly looks that way from where I’m sitting, and I’ll never forgive them for this.
Being here with Calvin lets me see what true love feels like. I’m not different to him. I’m not weird or stupid. I’m just Paisleigh, his mate. His lover. His partner. All of those titles I can get behind.
