Brief Description – an emotional story about an old man losing his wife. A seance brings interesting results,

As this is a crime book and the main character is a detective, you would expect the story to start with a murder. However, I’m beginning to learn that David J. Gatward doesn’t do that. He introduces a new set of characters and you get sucked into their story, then he kills them!
I listened to most of this by downloading the audio book. I had missing out. The narrator is brilliant. He has an accent for each character.
These books are referred to as ‘up north’, which means the north of England. With the local dialect including phrases and says, the story came alive as I listened.
Writing about the grief of losing someone is difficult to find the right words to express the depth of feelings. In this story it was described in detail and pulled at my heartstrings especially as the narrator acted the mournful cries out. It really was gut wrenching.
Murder is a serious thing, as is grief. The detectives take their job seriously but one of the things I enjoyed is their dry humour. It lightens the seriousness of it and I found myself smiling.
As with every book of the series so far, I thoroughly recommend DCI Harry Grimm.

Blurb
His latest case has him chasing ghosts. But the murderer is flesh-and-blood hiding in the ashes…
DCI Harry Grimm is on the cusp of a stunning decision. Considering making his move to the scenic Yorkshire Dales permanent, he ends up reviewing details of a terrible car accident that killed a retired colonel’s beloved wife. But when the panicked widower calls the police claiming the deceased woman’s spirit is haunting him, the dedicated detective wades in to piece together a less implausible explanation.
With suspicions running high after a cabin on the property burns down, Grimm and his team are shocked to identify the scorched human remains that leave behind a twice-grieving family. And when he uncovers evidence the fire wasn’t simple misfortune, the no-nonsense investigator is certain the culprit is more than a ghastly ghoul…
Can he nab the phantom killer before they vanish into thin air?
Restless Dead is the engrossing fifth book in the DCI Harry Grimm crime fiction series. If you like character-driven police procedurals, light humor, and grisly twists that keep you guessing, then you’ll love David J. Gatward’s burning mystery.
