#JunkJournals

From this February, I shall be adding more content to my blog with things I do besides writing.

I’ve already posted about my cross stitch disaster and I’ve told you about my new book release. So now I want to introduce you to journals.

So what are junk journals? I hear you ask.

It is about making your own journal book from things that would generally be thrown out.

Once you have made your cover, you then make the pages. For this you can use old book pages, packaging, envelopes, maps, music sheets, literally anything that you want. Then you decorate the pages with pockets, folders, flip outs, and secret journaling spots,

Of course like most things it’s evolved over time. Journals can be made out of beautiful images and attractive craft card. Inside, the pages, which are called signatures, are made from beautiful papers.

Some people use them as glue books, pasting images they have found and like. Others journal their day with photos, stickers and words. There are no rules. Whatever you can create and enjoy is a junk journal.

I’m still learning what my style is, and which one I prefer. Meanwhile, here you can see what I’ve been doing. It isn’t finished yet. There are still plenty of pages left for me to decorate.

This is a cover I made from a window envelope that came in the post. I opened it out by cutting the two short sides and decorated the front and back, and inside.

If you put Junk Journals into YouTube or TikTok, you’ll see a wide variety if different ones. I love watching them to get ideas. But beware, it’s very addictive.
