Review of Eye of the Fire by Adam C Mitchell

Brief Description – a 1930s jungle adventure.

It isn’t very often that I read a book twice, but this is one I originally read it in 2018. I had forgotten enough to make it interesting again.

I saw it advertised by the author as an audible book. As I was going on a trip, it filled my one and a half hours car journey nicely.

Once more, I really enjoyed the story as a group of adventures fly into to the jungle in search of a primitive tribe. But things don’t go as expected.

The tribe are fearsome apemen, and have other ideas about meeting our explorers. Friendly they are not.

The description of them is wonderful, from the gorilla leader, to a monkey warrior and a splendid medicine man baboon. The narrators voice really brought them to life, and it added further interest to the plot. I loved his clipped English accent, just as one imagines people from that era spoke.

This is a great little read, or in my case an entertaining audible book. I shall look out for more of these Coffee Cup Pulps, especially if they are in audio too.

Blurb

They expected adventure. The island didn’t disappoint.

When seasoned treasure hunter, Mike Gordon, and his party of unconventional adventurers travel to a breathtaking island hoping to discover a primitive tribe, their journey couldn’t have gone any smoother.

But the day after landing their seaplane, they are overrun by violent savages whose god is in need of a fresh sacrifice.

Can Mike’s team escape the treacherous island unharmed, or will this trip be their last adventure together?
