I receive Ellen Read’s newsletter and when she offered ARCs of her new release, I immediately asked for one. I love getting an advanced copy of a book, although unfortunately I missed the release date. Usually I have the review up to coincide with the day.
Short stories have always been my favourite. This is quick satisfying read especially when you don’t have too much time. The Treasure and Broken fitted bill perfectly, and two for the price of one!
The Treasure is a delightful fairy tale with all the elements you would expect. A castle, a dead king, and hidden treasure. I spotted a slight element of Cinderella, which the author drew a small bit of inspiration from. Like all tales of this kind we get the happy ending. It was perfect!
Broken is a contemporary story that involves families, intrigue, and a beautiful horse. Being a horse lover, this is easily my favourite of the two. Rachael finds peace and also a beautiful horse and maybe, they can help each other.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed both of them. I’d become so invested in the second story, I forgot I wasn’t reading a novel. That’s how entertaining it was. I recommend this book as a quick read, and especially for short stories lovers like me.
