News from Karen’s Writing Desk
Each month end, I’ll send out my hot off the press news as if it were a newsletter. They are never complete without a few selected books from authors I’ve read and enjoyed.
I’m working on the last edits of Time Lines with Julie, my editor and it’s now available for preorder. I have a fantastic book trailer for it too, made by Sahara Foley. So if after watching this, you’d like to order it, the link is below.
I’m enjoying paperbacks again, but have had a slight hiccup. I was originally reading Troubled Blood, but at almost 1K words, I struggled with holding it. Finally I had to give in and buy a Kindle copy. I’m now reading a non-fiction paperback, which is okay, but doesn’t have the same addiction as fiction. So that will take me a little longer.

These are the books I’ve read this month. We are now halfway through the year and I’ve just started my fiftieth book. I’ve read a very large one and two little ones and a novella. All are reviewed on my website.

Dream or reality. When do the lines cross?
Ever since he came back from ‘Nam, he’s had trouble sleeping. Even his girlfriend’s red robe, hanging on the back of the bedroom door, has become his nemesis.
One night, during the worst thunderstorm in Omaha’s history, he has a visitor. He denies it’s possible. How can it be real?
Then he follows it outside.
Now, the police accuse him of killing his girlfriend. But he really knows what happened. Right?
Or is it all a nightmarish dream?
Ethan dreamed of a life no immortal should ever dare to dream.
Welcome to Australia, where unbeknownst to Zoey, vampires still hide in the dark.
Zoey and her parents have to move from London to Australia very quickly.
Her dad, it turns out, was the accountant for a mob boss until he grew a conscience and turned state witness.
Now they are in the Witness Protection Programme.
To keep their secret, she has to go to night school and here she crosses paths with Ethan, a terrifying monster, who introduces her to a hidden world riddled with even more secrets than her own.
She could not help it really when it was love at first sight the moment she saw Ethan, a dangerous vampire, but, then again, tales of vampires are fantasy – aren’t they?

The magnificent opening to the epic Perennials Trilogy, Becoming Lili is a rollercoaster read of love, loss, and found family
It begins with an ugly duckling girl. Bullied viciously at school and unloved at home, Phyllis is a lonely teenager longing for so much more from life. Suddenly, a tragic loss and a random encounter with a stranger offer her the opportunity to have it all – if only she dares to change, to grasp the chance with both hands.
Never has an ugly duckling turned into such a beautiful swan
In the years that follow, others join her on her journey to Becoming Lili. Then Lili meets Jake and realises that sometimes the one thing you want, is the one thing you can’t have.
Becoming Lili is a heart-warming tale of love, aspiration, and friendship set against the backdrop of the vibrant ’90s, with a cast of unforgettable characters you will fall in love with.
