My Review of Whatever Happened to Rachel by Conrad Jones.

I wanted to read a book based in Anglesey and knew Conrad Jones has written several. I’ve only read the first one and What Happened to Rachel? is book five. They are completely standalone, so can be read in any order.

The storyline was fast paced and page turning. What started out as a missing girl, becomes so much more. I loved reading about places I knew well and it added another dimension to the story. DI Alan Williams and his team did a great job in their investigation and they bring all the books together as a series. They had a lot to deal with as some parts of the story were hair raising and scary.

There was nothing I didn’t like except there really isn’t that much crime on our island!

Overall, What Happened to Rachel is a great, gritty crime thriller. I also liked how it was based at the beginning of lockdown without putting too much emphasis on the virus itself. As with all good detective novels, there are a lot of red herrings. But all the loose ends are neatly joined together and the ending is satisfying. I fully recommend this book.

I reached out to the author on social media to ask if he had visited the places mentioned. Interestingly, he said he walked the streets via Google earth, which I thought was cool.
