Where did the idea for the story come from?

It started with a card, literally. Last year, due to Covid lockdown restrictions, instead of purchasing a birthday card for my other half, whom I was separated from as we were living in different houses, I grabbed a piece of paper and started drawing a birthday card.

I thought back on various things from our relationship, selecting very specific favourite items and I put them on the card. Only, when I finished drawing the card, I wasn’t finished with the characters and before I knew it, I was sat down in front of my laptop, typing away at my keyboard and before I know it, I was writing “The End” to Kerry the Unicorn and Her Adventures In Space.

Give a quote from the books, one that says little but speaks volumes.

“I’m on own and life’s not fun,
I wish for a friend, a special someone.”
“Can you please help me to find a friend to call my own,
so I no longer have to feel so very alone?”

Summarise your book in ten words or less.

The Pursuit of Friendship and the Journey to find it.

Give a short summary of what the book is about?

Kerry the Unicorn is a book about loneliness and the sense of belonging that many of us have. Although disguised as a children’s book, Kerry the Unicorn has an adult theme that will resonate with readers of all ages. It’s a book about a lonely individual who wishes to alone in the universe no longer. So, Kerry sets out on a quest to seek out friendship where ever possible and she’ll do whatever it takes to see her dreams of belonging, become a reality.

What genre is it?

Children’s Illustrated Fantasy

How many pages is it?

22

Why do you think the readers will want to read it?

Kerry the Unicorn starts off as a sad tale about a lonely unicorn, who scours the universe, looking for a friend and will stop at nothing to succeed in her goal. I think young readers will enjoy the book as it offers a good lesson on why it is important not to always give up, no matter how hard things may seem, as goals can be accomplished if we all work hard enough.

Where are you located?

Essex, England.

Description

In the deep vastness of space,
there lived a unicorn with a long sad face.

She had lovely pink wings and a long wavy mane,
but there was no escaping her unbearable pain.

Kerry flew far and wide looking for a friend,
someone she could play with until the end.

Excerpt

Trying elsewhere, Kerry flew to the moon,

it was made of cheese and she pranced like a loon.

She sung a song as she shed a tear,

being all alone was her biggest fear.

She tried to be strong and to carry on,

but left was right and right was wrong.

No matter where she went, there was no one there,

Life was cruel, she felt it was unfair.
