Tea Time, Tales for Any Taste by Carrie O’Leary

What an absolute delight this book is to read. It’s perfect for dipping in and out of, with a cup of tea in your hand, just as the blurb suggests.

You’ve heard the expression “doomscrolling”? Well, this is exactly what would make a far better alternative. The short flash fiction and micro-stories are perfectly suited to those quick moments when you reach for your phone.

Some collections I’ve read seem to have the same voice throughout, which can make it feel as though you’re reading the same story again and again. Not this one. Each story is unique. I really loved the length; it fed my addiction to fiction perfectly.

My favourites were the science fiction pieces, especially the post-apocalyptic stories—which are, well, very much my cup of tea. They were excellent: just enough to tease, leaving your imagination to run wild.

I’d highly recommend this to lovers of short stories. It’s far more satisfying to scroll through these than anything else when you pick up your phone!

Book Blurb and Link

This is a collection of flash and microfiction stories, each that will take less time than having a cup of tea to read. Extended from a book previously released last year this is a mixture of genres including magic, mystery, romance, science fiction, fantasy, steampunk, mythology, horror, history and contemporary; many with a splash of humour. There’s a smattering of short poems for your added enjoyment. Dip in and enjoy a story with your favourite brew.

If you are new to flash and microfiction, they are what they say on the box—very short stories, in this case, of between around 100 – 1000 words. If you enjoy quick and snappy fiction, this is the book for you.
