The Girl Nobody Remembers by Stephen Simpson

As a subscriber to the author’s newsletter, I was lucky enough to receive this as a free audiobook on Audible. However, after a few chapters I disliked the narrator’s voice, so I switched to Alexa to continue it there instead.

The story is set in an Irish school and follows the main character, Ezra, who is searching for his missing friend, Willow. What makes the mystery particularly intriguing is that all records of her seemed to have vanished. She’d gone from his phone, gone from the school records, and, most strangely of all, no one remembered her. It leaves you wondering if Ezra had somehow imagined the whole thing.

Determined to uncover the truth, he recruits his friend Paige, who is open-minded enough to believe Willow really did exist. Together they search for answers. What they eventually uncover is disturbing and increasingly bizarre—which is exactly what you would expect from a horror story. As the plot unfolded, the mystery deepened and the truth became stranger and stranger.

Overall, I found it an unsettling and unusual story. I’m not sure I fully grasped everything that was going on, although that may have been partly due to switching between narrators. I also didn’t feel entirely connected to Ezra, which left me feeling detached from the story.

This is a young adult novel, so the horror isn’t graphic. If you enjoy stories with a slightly surreal edge and plenty of twists and turns before the final reveal, then The Girl Nobody Remembers will likely appeal to you.

Book Blurb and Link

What if the person you love most… simply vanished?

Not just from your sight, but from the entire world’s memory.

For Ezra, that nightmare is his reality. His girlfriend, Willow Archer, is gone. Her room is empty. Her photos are missing. And the worst part? Nobody remembers her—not his parents, not his friends, not even the internet.

In this gripping Young Adult Horror Thriller, Ezra is desperate to prove he’s not losing his mind. Teamed up with his skeptical friend Paige, they uncover a terrifying truth: an insidious, unknown entity is systematically erasing people from existence, feeding on memories like a virus.

Their investigation leads them to the chilling Six-Link Theory: when the last six people who remember you forget, you’re gone forever.

Ezra is terrified he’s the final link.

Every faded photograph, every cracked memory, is a clue in a terrifying race against time to find the source of the erasure before Willow—and the very idea of her—is lost forever. But the cost of saving her, and reality itself, might be too high…

How much of yourself would you sacrifice to save the one you love?
