Introducing Colin Sephton
Where did the idea for the story come from?
The idea is the third novel in a trilogy, following on from Timeslayers and Shadowslayers, so it follows on charting the journey of the two protagonists, Ignatius and Indigo. The whole trilogy is really my thoughts on modern day science and ancient Vedic knowledge. The story plays out with a collection of beliefs that are very ancient but seem to be coming together as truth as modern day science develops. So, it deals with themes like consciousness, both individual, collective and cosmic consciousness, free will, the flow of time and the possibility we live in a multiverse. All of this gets blended together to form a novel I enjoy writing.
Give a quote from the books, one that says little but speaks volumes.
“Your spiritual development has lost its way. The Asura, humans, are perhaps our greatest failure. Save for a few special swamis, mystics, gurus, call them what you will, who attained enlightenment, humans have never grasped their true nature and the nature of the cosmos.”
Give a summary of what the book is about.
The story marks the conclusion of Ignatius and Indigo’s journey through the cosmos, capturing a brief but transformative chapter of their lives. Along the way, they uncover profound truths about the universe itself and about their own true nature. Their fateful encounter with the Charon, seven merciless immortals and demons from Limbo, culminates in revelations far greater than anything they could have imagined.
As a result, both protagonists struggle to reconcile their new knowledge, their complex relationship with the Charon, and the evolving bond they share with one another. At its core, the broader tale of the Charon revolves around a single question: the nature of free will. No matter how powerful one becomes, are we ever truly free, or are we always carrying out the designs of others?
Soulslayers is the culmination of years of careful plotting by the Charon, who seek nothing less than their own freedom. But this pursuit comes at a steep price for Ignatius and Indigo. Their encounters with such beings and their involvement in cosmic struggles take a heavy toll, leaving them to grapple not only with the vast complexity of the universe but also with the burden of their newfound supernatural powers.
What genre is it?
Soulslayers is a fantasy novel. However, I find genres are too defining, and not always helpful, they can be too limiting. The whole trilogy is really a mix of fantasy, darkfantasy, esoteric knowledge, steampunk and metaphysics. There’s even a hint at a slight romance, which we see is fully developed by the start of Soulslayers. For this reason, I think the novel has an appeal to a wide audience.
How many pages is it?
259
Why do you think the readers will want to read it?
Soulslayers appeals to those who love stories that combine high-conceptworldbuilding with intimate emotional stakes. It’s a novel for readers who want to feel the weight of the cosmos and the fragile hope of two souls trying to find their place within it. Readers will be drawn to Soulslayers because it offers more than just a cosmic adventure, it’s an exploration of humanity, choice, and destiny wrapped in a thrilling, otherworldly journey. It weaves a tale where immortals, demons, and cosmic truths collide with the fragile emotions of two protagonists, Ignatius and Indigo, whose bond is tested at every step. It concerns a scope that is epic in its world building, has deep themes, an emotional core and at its heart, mystery and revelation.

Excerpt
As dawn paled the eastern sky, the only cloud appeared as an orange smear across the horizon. Even before she had opened her eyes fully, she could make out the sun streaming in through the gap in the curtains, blinding her. As she eventually opened them completely, her mind still in turmoil, she took in a deep breath, resigning herself to another day. Her battle-bruised body ached all over. She could feel her heart beating in what had felt like an empty, hollow chest since her ordeal. She felt light-headed as she rolled over onto her back and could feel the comforting warmth of his body lying next to her. He felt solid, permanent, unlike herself, he was her security and much more, he loved her. Events of the previous week ran through her mind and with mixed emotions she took delight, not in the fact she was alive, but because she was with him. She could hear the dawn chorus outside and eventually smiled. She had to be positive; this was a new day, a good day, she had fought gods once more and survived.
Turning over she placed her arm over his muscular frame. She could feel the scars of his battle-torn body. She studied them, tracing them with her fingertips. She studied his beautiful face, the shock of blond hair ruffled from restless sleep. His square jaw and high cheekbones. Warmth began to flow through her veins and her heart quickened its beat. They had worked together for years, and it had always been professional. Strictly business. Maybe things had changed because both felt like they only had each other.
