What I thought

Well, overall this was an enjoyable read, although I skipped some pages. I was being a bit cheeky with what I said above. I mean when you are trying to survive an apocalypse would you want to read how to grow your own food or learn to dig a trench to lay conduit in great detail? No I didn’t think so.

The chapters were divided into the two families. One was the parents of the other who live on a Vineyard. This is the second book, so they are now preparing everything in readiness for the world ending. By contrast their daughter and her family were racing across LA in an RV running into one disaster after another – it was so exciting. I honestly couldn’t stop turning the pages. Then in contrast her parents are digging trenches and planting vegetables.

The latter became a bit tedious at times. It made me consider not continuing. Then it switched back to the family fleeing LA and the story ramped once more. I had to keep going.

You may love detail. I generally do, but occasionally, like this, it goes on too long.

I’m not a lover of big books and at 356 pages it’s a lot for me – although on this occasion, I hardly noticed as I flipped between reading and listening to the audio book.

What does FOLIANT mean? It’s the is the name of the series and I was curious. There was no mention of it in this story, so I looked it up in the first book and that lined up with Google – Foliant – also served as a codename for a Soviet program that developed Novichok nerve agents. Clever author!

Book Blurb

Trapped in an urban hellscape, the O’Brians come face-to-face with someone who they least expect. Meanwhile, in Oregon, the family vineyard is under increasing threats thanks to its resources and location, and the Tills must either stand their ground or risk joining those who have fled and perished in book 2 of FOLIANT.

From 4-million-copy bestselling master of thrilling fiction Mike Kraus comes a new epic tale: FOLIANT.

A nerve agent is deployed in cities across the country, and within hours tens of millions are dead – but the worst is yet to come.

Caught in the middle of the attacks in Los Angeles, the vacationing O’Brian family barely survives by the skin of their teeth – but soon find themselves trapped in the midst of a city of the dead. The only way back to their family in Oregon is to go straight through the heart of the charnel house, a prospect that is easier said than done.

Far to the north, in Oregon, the Tills family vineyard is spared the worst of the initial attacks – but the secondary effects may be their undoing as the world falls apart around them.

For those in charge of the response, the attacks are evolving too quickly to predict, and the country’s final undoing may be closer than anyone realizes as the terrible attacks have only just begun….
