Silver Dagger Book Tours are a great way to find new books. The Infected sounded great. Just the sort of thing I enjoy and I wasn’t wrong.
The book started after “the event” that changed humanity, so, as we delved straight into the story, we didn’t know what “it” was. That wasn’t an issue, the storyline was great. A world full of infected people – and a handful of those who didn’t turn into zombie creatures.
Carrie is our woman of the moment. She is on her own until she comes across John. He is one of the ‘infected’ and she befriends him. Isn’t that cool? I thought so. How can that be? I hear you ask. Well, there is something that makes him different and not like the other mindless zombies. That’s what initially drew me.
This story has its flaws, but we can get past that when it has such a great storyline. Oh it’s clever. The ending – you won’t see that coming- I didn’t. Plus you’ll get a surprise, and it’s no spoiler to tell you what it is – this book is going to be a series. Yes, you’re right, there is no indication on the cover – nor in the back matter. You’ll see why it’s a series – oh how clever!
Between this unassuming cover is a great story and I just wish the author had proclaimed it more.
If you want the audio book, then you have to find the paperback first – which is not connected to the kindle. I missed it, but you don’t have too.
So – if you like an exciting read, with a great plot twist and a potential series, give Perry Prete’s The Infected a go.

Book Blurb
A rogue virus alters human DNA, causing a mutation which infects most of the world’s population. Those immune to the virus must survive any way they can, as the two groups fight for dominance. The infected mindlessly hunt at night, humans travel and forage for food during the day. Rumours have spread of an area free of the infected in the cold barren land permanently frozen in Northern Canada where the infected cannot survive.
A girl, alone and scared, is rescued by one of the infected, forming a bond that may change the course of how these two groups will live with each other.
As their unlikely friendship grows, she realizes that peace may be possible if others can learn to accept them. Until everything changes.
